About Mah-Jong
Mah-Jong (麻将) translates as “the game of the sparrows”. The game originated in China in the late 19th century, spreading to the west in the 1920’s. It is in many ways similar to the Western card game rummy, involving the accumulation of related sets of tiles which are variously decorated with Chinese characters, dragons, flowers and other symbols.
Mah-Jong is played head-to-head by groups of four people. Success is based on a combination of strategy, skill and a degree of luck. It is an easy game to learn, although more challenging to really master.
