Film Club

Film Club is a lively discussion group which is in its first year. To begin with, we will be focusing on the history of British film from the first talkies to the latest releases.

Members are asked to view iconic films from each decade of the 20th and 21st centuries.

While on a whistle-stop tour through a century of cinema there’ll be pauses to look at a variety of genre including literary adaptation; social realism; film noir; romantic comedy; science fiction and war.

There’ll also be an appreciation of the often-overlooked contribution of women creatives and the important influence of émigré filmmakers in shaping what is now thought of as quintessentially ‘British’.

At each meeting members are encouraged to share their own recommendations for films with the group and to share experiences of cinema-going past and present.

Film Club is currently at capacity, but please contact the Group Coordinator Carolyne Bevan via the email link below to be added to the waiting list.
